African Broadway takes a drop in class after being well beaten by Rocky Creek and Gullinbursti in a Grade 2 contest at Doncaster. Previously, he'd stayed on well to land the odds at Exeter over 19 furlongs and should be capable of delivering a competitive effort at this trip. However, BROUGH ACADEMY returned from a decent break to score at this track and remains open to significant improvement after just the two hurdle runs. He is narrowly preferred. Oscar Davy, not seen since early November, looks just the sort to progress on better ground and appears the other leading player.
A competitive novice. Previous winners African Broadway and Brough Academy look sure to make their presence felt again, but Oscar Davy ran into a useful sort at Exeter last time and is worth another chance to make up for his final-flight fall at Carlisle.

A cracking novice chase with all five housing claims. However, Chariot Charger was slightly disappointing behind Michael Flips latest, Definite Dawn hails from a yard struggling for a winner at present and Sir Du Bearn defeated nothing of note when scoring here last time. Trenchant has taken well to fences and stayed on strongly to score last time at Lingfield but may just lack the class of CUCUMBER RUN. The latter is clearly suited by two and a half miles or more and travelled better the further he went at Wetherby last time. He can follow up over this slightly longer trip.
The unexposed Sir du Bearn won as he liked here last month and is taken to follow up, though he's unlikely to have things all his own way against some fairly useful opposition, the pick of whom could be Chariot Charger.

Not So Sure Dick has appealing form claims but was declared to run at Kempton on Saturday and will need to have recovered fully from those exertions to tackle this contest at his best. Therefore, RIGADIN DE BEAUCHENE gets the vote although he comes with risks attached after failing to complete in two of his last four runs. He's useful when putting it together though and rates the potential improver in a field of primarily exposed rivals. Magot De Grugy, River Indus and Mortimers Cross all fall into that category, whilst Rateable Value is not discounted off the bottom perch.
Rateable Value won this 12 months ago and looks sure to go well again, even so a chance is taken on Hereford scorer Rigadin de Beauchene returning to form after a lesser effort since. Not So Sure Dick has done little wrong of late and completes the shortlist.

No Champion Hurdle contenders here but a good prize all the same. Clerk's Choice has obvious chances on his sixth in last year's championship race behind Hurricane Fly but has shown little since switching stables and is best watched until doing so. The Knoxs is talented at best but quirky to say the least and THIRD INTENTION appeals as a safer option. Well beaten last time in the Betfair Hurdle, his previous efforts when second to Ranjaan and seventh in the Greatwood Hurdle behind Brampour (only beaten eight lengths) read well enough for him to oblige in this company.
It would be no surprise were The Knoxs popular in the betting but he's got 2 poor runs to put behind him and a safer proposition could be Third Intention who may have more to offer now upped in trip. Bally Legend chased that one home at Taunton last month and could do so again.

It was back in 2009 that BARBERS SHOP finished third in the King George won by Kauto Star and he landed his first success under Rules since December 2008 when easily landing a Fakenham hunter chase earlier this month. This is tougher for the Royal runner but he will be hard to beat at this level if retaining a reasonable proportion of his previous ability. Former decent hurdler Hills Of Aran is progressing fairly well in these contests and looks the main danger to the selection about whom there remains a stamina query. Palypso De Creek looks next best.
Barbers Shop went with a good deal of enthusiasm when making a winning start in hunters at Fakenham recently and ought to prove too strong for Hills of Aran and Palypso de Creek.

SPIRIT D'ARMOR created a good impression when landing his first hurdling success at Huntingdon last month, travelling and jumping well before staying on strongly. He's been raised 10lb for that victory but looks just the sort of progressive type with which Venetia Williams excels. He can defy top-weight at the main expense of Bold Adventure. Willie Musson's campaigner enjoys his all-weather jaunts and looks interesting here off a tempting mark after just the three career starts over timber. Dormouse looks the each-way shout with Sircozy and the enigmatic Mickmacmagoole also of interest.
Spirit d'Armor was an impressive winner last time, giving the impression that there was more to come, and looks the most solid proposition here. Sircozy and Bold Adventure look next best.

UTOPIAN hasn't been seen since outpointing Ut De Sivola last May at Vichy and now has his first run since joining Nick Gifford. He has obvious claims if that form is taken literally in view of the runner-up's subsequent performances since joining Willie Mullins, although his layoff is clearly a concern. Nicky Henderson's excellence in such contests is there for all to see and Two Oscars should progress from a solid, if unspectacular, Hereford debut. Anthony Honeyball has his string in fine heart and market support for his Flemensfirth newcomer Royal Announcement should be taken very seriously.
Bamboleo and Two Oscars both hail from leading yards but neither have shaped like winners in waiting in this discipline. Utopian, however, had a subsequent Grade 3 hurdler in behind when winning a French bumper in May and looks the one to be with starting out for Nick Gifford. The 3 newcomers, Lombard Light, Whatsupjack and Royal Announcement all make some appeal on paper as well.
