BARIZAN makes his eagerly anticipated chasing debut here and the five-year-old, who is rated 138 over hurdles, should have more than enough to hit the ground running and score in this. Solid form behind Soldatino at the Cheltenham Festival last year and Sire Des Champs earlier this year suggests he is up to the task but Mister Matt could make a race of it. He remains a maiden after 16 starts but has run consistently well in defeat of late. Helium rates best of the rest and is entitled to improve for his effort at Worcester last time.
The race revolves largely around whether Barizan takes to chasing, as the pick of his hurdles form is easily the best on offer. Helium is the obvious threat tackling fences again.

GREEN MINING made a solid first start for Tim Vaughan's yard when scoring at Worcester last month and this doesn't look much tougher. The son of Beneficial was a consistent type for Henry De Bromhead in Ireland and looks to have enough in the locker to record back-to-back victories for his new connections. Geneva Geyser, a four-time winner on the Flat, is an interesting runner here on his hurdling debut and Que Vivo is one to watch out for. Bluemoonandstars would have to improve again but could run into a place.
Green Mining will be much better suited to this trip than when winning at Worcester, so shouldn't be hard pressed to follow up. Those with experience look no threat and it may be newcomers Geneva Geyser and Roanstar who give the selection most to do.

It might be worth siding with PREMIER DES MARAIS here as the eight-year-old has come sliding back down the weights to what looks a winnable mark. Last seen at this distance in February at Huntingdon, Gary Moore's representative won convincingly off a mark of 107 but the handicapper took a stern view of that and he was put up 10lb. He is now only 3lb higher than for that success. Lansdowne Princess must defy a 7lb penalty for her recent win but she seems to be improving with every run and must not be overlooked. Orion Star looks the biggest danger to the principals.
It's Round 3 in the battle between Orion Star and Lansdowne Princess, and this may be the day the former gains revenge for his previous defeats. Priors Glen could also get involved if a first-time visor does the trick.

Lajidaal is sent out under a penalty here but suggested at Fontwell recently that he has more improvement to come. However, BORDER STATION gets the nod after a promising effort last time out over C&D. Mark Quinlan takes off a valuable 5lb and this would give him more than a serious chance of getting competitive. Of the others, Ten Pole Tudor could pose a threat as the ground finally seems to have come his way and Island News looks well handicapped near the bottom of the weights.
Lajidaal's attitude means he can't be fully trusted, but he's still potentially well treated under a penalty and is taken to follow up last week's C&D success. Island News and the returning Cardinal James look the chief threats.

ZHUKOV looks well treated and could easily bounce back to winning ways in this. The nine year-old found one too good when bidding to complete a hat-trick under a penalty over C&D last time out and, off a 5lb lower mark tonight, a big run is expected. Ede's makes his seasonal reappearance and must be respected but the 11-year-old may need the run. Kim Bailey's veteran Good Old Days may be one to watch at an inviting price.
Possible to make a case for all 6, but it may pay to concentrate on the 3 C&D winners, Good Old Days, Bid Art and Zhukov. The first named showed he still retains enough fire in his belly to win races when a close fourth at Huntingdon last time and is now a 1 lb lower than his last winning mark.

The finale looks an obvious opportunity for SOVEREIGN SPIRIT to record back-to-back successes. The nine-year-old escapes a penalty for his facile success in a condition jockeys' race and is due to go up 10lb after today so a repeat performance should suffice. Tecktal has made a promising start to the new season and Hereditary is dangerous now the ground has come his way. His most recent effort suggested this step down in trip would be ideal but it is interesting that apprentice jockey Tom Cannon has sided with Sovereign Spirit over the Linda Jewell representative.
It's difficult to get away from Sovereign Spirit, who was an authoritive winner over C&D last week and is able to race from a 1 lb lower mark here. Hereditary and Capdalight may fare best of the rest.
