MAVERICK GIRL was supported on debut and ran a cracker finishing a neck behind a filly that has a fair chance in the next race. The youngster shouldn't go flat and could reward followers this time. SEATTLE BURNING jumped slow when also backed on debut and may show much more. EYETUNES should hold quite a few on her last run. It was a decent local debut - respect.

O TAMARA was a good second to The Merry Widow who won another feature recently. If O TAMARA sees out the trip should have no problems here. Brain opener this one. STIR IT UP was a good second to WOW HOLIDAY and should build on that from a better draw. The latter drew badly but could be flying up again with a bit of luck. GREATIST HITS also has a wide draw but is waiting for this trip. ZE TZAR has a good draw and could reward his fans after being backed last time. GRANDISSIMO is a youngster with scope. More in it.

Verdict

The Grade 3 Derby is always a quality event and this one promises fireworks. WELSH EMPEROR is on the way up and could love the trip on pedigree. He is after all a Go Deputy colt like star Abashiri. ELUSIVE SILVA brings in very good West Cape form but was beaten by FLY LIKE THE WIND who finished behind WELSH EMPEROR previously. SOLANA is a good filly and must be respected.

Verdict

PERCIVAL has fair Western Cape form and in his third run after gelding could be more suited to the 1200 metre trip now. SPACE LAUNCH was a good third on his turf debut here last time and he could turn the form around with BLACK TOGA at the weights this time.
