SHAYENUT'NTONOBODY got really good at Tampa this spring and a wide-margin maiden victory was followed by a neck loss on her first try against winners. If she repeats her latest run here, she'll take some beating. Bow Street Runner broke her maiden on her first start for her current trainer and rates the biggest threat, ahead of Penn runner-up Competitive Dream.
LITTLEMISSPERFECT has been a revelation on dirt since a claim in March, rattling up a hat-trick. She has won on turf in the past and this is her first chance to show her improvement on that surface. Take It Inside has upped her game since Mike Gorham put her on grass and takes a drop in class here. She warrants plenty of respect as does the sharp Heaven Help Me.
DR. DREW outfinished a field of claimers at Parx last month. The five-year-old has been at a higher level in the past and may be heading back up the class ladder. He'll have to chase down the speedy Peaceadaaction, who was burned in a duel last time but won by 10 lengths prior to that when he made the lead on his own. He will be dangerous if allowed to dominate while Charles Town scorer Amber Coast also merits consideration.
GRANDPA'S KING has been pressing the pace in better maidens and fading badly. He should stick around a lot longer now in a career low spot. The trainer change is a negative but he may be a price with the market preferring the likes of Velocious, who ran third when dropped in class to a maiden claimer at Penn National, and Knight At Di Disco.
This is a stake with many chances, with the well-drawn CHAT getting the vote. The former John Gosden-trained mare won at Saratoga last August and shaped well on her 2015 debut at Keeneland. Granny Mc's Kitten and Tokyo Time represent big New York-based trainers. They contend but aren't miles clear of the rest and need to overcome wide draws.
CALYPSO RUN duelled in fast fractions in a stake at Oaklawn in April and paid the price. However, she's been freshened up by a trainer who has made a fabulous start to this meet, and gets the nod. Delightful Liz was a seven-length maiden winner here on dirt last July and may improve for her comeback run on turf. She and Wildcat Gaze make up the shortlist.
Lady Of Gold is the one to beat dropping in class from a Grade 2 but she is arguably better over further and may be overbet. So too might the sharp and consistent Theatre Star, who has a tough draw, so LILY CARSTAIRS gets the vote. She made a pleasing US debut and should be a decent price. Who's In Town has won a stake over seven furlongs and should stay this distance.
Culous Way is the one to beat off a couple of fourth places in stronger maidens. He has had a dozen chances to graduate but, in fairness, this is by far his easiest assignment. As he's likely to be a very short price, though, DANCING NIGHT could be a playable alternative. He's less exposed and did shape well in his first two starts before finding trouble last time. Merlin also has a squeak.
