Newcomer ATHA SOLAS is a half-sister to Grade One winning hurdler Commander Of Fleet who won his maiden hurdle on debut at Punchestown. She is sure to be well schooled and could make a winning start. This is the easier than the maiden hurdle Roma Delight finished fourth in at Punchestown. She could be dangerous off the front. Brookline sets the standard courtesy of a runner-up berth on debut at Fairyhouse. She kept on without threatening to get up for second albeit some 13 lengths adrift of the winner. Granted normal improvement she ought to be right in the mix. Fraternity was a significant gamble in Fairyhouse last month but spoiled her chance by racing keenly, and her jockey reported that she jumped poorly. This former flat winner could improve upon that fifth place.

Top Tip: Atha Solas (2)
Watch out for: Brookline (4)

BROOKLINE seemed to exceed expectations when a really good second on debut at Fairyhouse a month ago and with improvement likely, he's up to winning a run-of-the-mill maiden such as this. Fraternity probably needs a sharp 2m over hurdles and he can be a factor, with Atha Solas a likely-looking newcomer.

The 154-rated BAPAUME is virtually impossible to oppose. He should relish this assignment over the smaller obstacles having been extensively campaigned in the best of company over fences. He was pulled up in the Grade One Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown in a race that Flooring Porter dominated from the front. It should be a different story here as he is the class act of this small field. Hammersmith has been placed in four of his hurdle races and should be all the fitter for a close fourth in a flat handicap at the Curragh on Sunday. He is rated some 36lb inferior to Bapaume over flights, though, which makes this task off level weights incredibly difficult. Department Of War has been off since February last year. He showed ability when winning his maiden hurdle at Down Royal on his penultimate start but is entitled to come on for this run.

Watch out for: Hammersmith (3)

BAPAUME has yet to get going this season but this should be little more than a confidence-boosting exercise against inferior rivals. An on-song Department of War should be able to secure second.

Lightly-raced THE GREEK can make the breakthrough. There was a lot to like about his runner-up finish over this trip in Fairyhouse earlier in the month. He kept on but couldn't reel in the winner and went down by three parts of a length. That was a solid effort behind an odds-on favourite. Point-to-point winner Emily Roebling was placed in a maiden hurdle at Cork in January, and didn't run badly at all when sixth over a further trip in Punchestown. She has a part to play. Dukes Mill showed good improvement to come in third in her last race at Fairyhouse some six lengths off the battle for first. She has to be considered a contender.

THE GREEK shaped really well when runner-up on his recent hurdling bow at Fairyhouse and is confidently expected to go one better. Dukes Mill rates the chief threat on the back of her fine Fairyhouse third with Glentruan also worth considering for place purposes.

TAKARENGO can put his experience to good use. He certainly wouldn't be winning out of turn having been placed in seven of his 12 hurdle races. He just failed to get up for second over this trip in Leopardstown earlier in the month which was a decent shift. It is worth noting that he had the stamina to finish placed in the Cesarewitch on the flat at Newmarket last year. Maccloud can come on from a fifth place on hurdling debut in a big field at Leopardstown. He didn't go unbacked that day. Henry Star and James Fort have both shown enough to have claims in this company.

JAMES FORT is getting better by the run and should be suited by the step up in trip, so he's fancied to improve past Takarengo in a race that the pair should dominate. BRINDABELLA caught the eye staying on for sixth in a race that has worked out well at Fairyhouse back in the autumn. The nine-year-old has clearly been difficult to keep right and reappears after another absence here but the booking of Robbie Power to partner her suggests that connections are hopeful of a big run in this event for maiden handicappers. Balkos had Arizona Flyer behind in fourth when runner-up at Thurles earlier this month and was placed over this trip last season. Elusive Exclusive was unlucky in running when fourth at Limerick on his first start for this yard and is another to consider along with Just Another Lady who has been running quite consistently this term and may improve for going back up in distance.

ELUSIVE EXCLUSIVE made a highly encouraging start for his new yard when fourth in a handicap at Limerick 11 days ago, likely to have been closer with a clear run, so he's fancied to build on that and gain a belated first success. Plenty with claims in a competitive heat and BOLD ASSASSIN gets a tentative vote on just his second handicap start. He was a fine second to well-treated chaser Notice To Close at Limerick over Christmas and can overcome a 3lbs rise in the ratings. Kellyiscool was just a bit too keen when outstayed at Thurles last time and can go well if settling better. Sweet Sting ran very well against much higher-rated rivals at the weekend and is turned out again quickly before a 5lbs rise in future handicaps kicks in. Street Value has risen sharply in the ratings but it's quite likely that stepping up to three miles could bring about more improvement.

Watch out for: Kellyiscool (7)

FIERAMI probably performed better in a higher grade at Navan than when winning previously at the same track. Raised 1lb for that fourth to Rebel Early, the Network gelding will take a bit of beating as he drops in class again. Hilltop Supreme is chasing a four-timer over hurdles and can go well again for his young rider who recently rode the first winner of her career. Third over fences last time, Shar Whats Therush had run well in a couple of handicap hurdles around the turn of the year and has a top amateur on board. Rocky's Howya disappointed behind Chenery on his handicap debut but shouldn't be discounted having shaped with promise a couple of times in maiden hurdles.

Lots with chances in a very open handicap but HILLTOP SUPREME is thriving since switched back to hurdles and is taken to rack up win number four of 2021 after showing himself to be better than ever with his recent Clonmel victory. In-form Fierami rates a big threat though, with handicap-debutant Cregane Ned and Shes Some Doll two others who need considering.
