This race is full of deadwood but that does not apply to JAMMIN MASTERS, who was not beaten far at all on his debut for these connections at Wetherby in November. That race was arguably stronger than this event and he is clearly the one to beat based on that performance. Nick Williams won this race in 2009 and 2013 and he looks to have a worthy contender once again with the lightly-raced Mercenaire, who trounced the field by 25-lengths to score on his UK debut at Exeter. However, WE HAVE A DREAM has won in the style of a special horse on his two outings so far and Nicky Henderson's youngster could take this on the way to more juvenile glory later in the season. Famous Milly claimed the scalp of a well-regarded filly of Paul Nicholls' at Aintree and has to be given plenty of consideration, while Sussex Ranger could be on the up and would be foolish to rule out.

It seems rather surprising that Nicky Henderson has never won a Grand National of any description and he bids to break that hoodoo with Beware The Bear. The progressive chaser made a remarkable return to action when landing the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle, despite his saddle slipping, and he can prove very competitive even with a 4lb penalty. Vintage Clouds has been in much better form this season and his second to Clan Des Obeaux at Haydock over a trip shorter than his best puts him right in the mix, but preference goes to a winner on the same card in CHASE THE SPUD. Fergal O'Brien's gelding is a guaranteed stayer having won the Midlands National at Uttoxeter back in March where he beat Mysteree, who reopposes here and warrants respect in his own right, and was impressive in beating Robinsfirth over an extended 3m1f. That rival came out and won a handicap at Cheltenham so the 9lb rise looks more than fair for an improving type. Others worth considering are Pobbles Bay, who should improve for his return over an inadequate trip at Aintree, last year's runner-up Raz De Maree and the progressive Wild West Wind.
