SIR GERHARD confirmed the promise that he displayed on his hurdling debut when readily beating Three Stripe Life in a Grade 1 over 2m at Leopardstown last month. The son of Jeremy was successful in the Champion Bumper here 12 months ago and he is hard to oppose this afternoon, despite having to prove his stamina. The aforementioned Three Stripe Life was fourth behind the selection in the Bumper last year and he only found Might Potter too good in another Grade 1 at Leopardstown over Christmas. Gordon Elliott's six-year-old looks sure to improve for this step up in trip and he may get closer to Sir Gerhard today. Journey With Me remains unbeaten and he has to be of some interest, while Whatdeawant could go well at an each-way price.

Bravemansgame has created a big impression since switching to fences this season and he certainly has the ability to go well in a race of this nature. That said, he finished tamely up the hill in the Ballymore 12 months ago and that has to be a concern. With that in mind, a chance can be taken with BEACON EDGE, who filled fourth place in the Stayers' Hurdle last season and he won the Drinmore on his second start over fences in November. It is a concern that he fell in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown last month, but he bounced back when narrowly beaten by Farouk D'Alene in the Ten Up under a 7lb penalty three weeks ago. L'Homme Presse is likely to go well if seeing out the trip, while Ahoy Senor and Capodanno complete the shortlist.

With trainer Paul Nicholls winning two of the last six renewals and his horses coming back to form, we may see a big effort from Il Ridoto here. He seemed to get bogged down on heavy going when third at Lingfield in January, but may find these conditions are far more suitable. Editeur Du Gite is looking for a Cheltenham hat-trick after wins here in November and December when setting the early pace, and he is entitled to go well despite an added 6lb from the handicapper for his latest success, but ELIXIR DE NUTZ could surprise them all. The early betting suggests this is all about the Willie Mullins-trained FACILE VEGA, a son of legendary mare Quevega and unbeaten after two impressive wins at Leopardstown by six and 12 lengths respectively.
