EBONY EXPRESS was a capable performer on the flat and he made a seamless transition to his new discipline when routing the opposition in a novice event over C&D last month. He carries a 7lb penalty for that success but has been found a contest which won't take much winning. Winning pointer Billy Buff was well held on his NH Flat bow at Newcastle but he ought to show up better now sent hurdling. It's possible that Drunken Counsel needed the run on his first start for Micky Hammond and he is the pick of the remainder with that pipe-opener under his belt.

Watch out for: Billy Buff (3)

Ebony Express was a fairly useful performer on the Flat and ran out an impressive winner on his hurdling debut over C&D last month. He's taken to follow up. Dangers include Cathedral, who made promising start in this sphere at Leicester, and Irish point-winner Billy Buff, who is sure to improve now hurdling.

Golden Sparkle would merit serious consideration if turned out quickly after her facile success at Bangor on Friday, but preference is for BIG WATER on his return to Carlisle. He has form figures of 2141 at this venue, and he is expected to improve on his Doncaster showing where he raced too freely in the early stages. Midnight Belle shaped with much more promise over the larger obstacles at Wincanton last time having taken a heavy fall on her chasing debut. She is entitled to maximum respect, while Water Garden and Master Of The Game aren't discounted either.

Watch out for: Midnight Belle (3)

Big Water is only 4 lb higher than for his success here last month and can resume winning ways back at this venue. The likeable Midnight Belle is sure to give another good account, while Golden Sparkle would hold obvious claims if turning up after her win at Bangor on Friday.

Donald McCain's winning pointer Subtle Grey is sure to be popular on his Rules debut, but he may just need this after 224 days off the track, so LEWIS gets the nod. He made an encouraging start to his hurdling career when second at Ffos Las last time out, and with that reappearance behind him, he can go one better. Mixboy also arrives on the back of a solid runner-up effort and he is sure to be thereabouts. Any market support for Baywing could be significant but Grove Silver looks set to struggle.

Hard to discount any of these and the market will be informative. A narrow vote goes the way of Lewis, who made a promising start for new handler Tom Symonds at Ffos Las recently.

KINGS APOLLO has been holding his form well in recent weeks and he appears to have been found a golden opportunity to gain a deserved success here. The only slight concern is the forecast testing ground, and if he finds the going too tough then Harangue will most likely take advantage. He looked set to claim his second win in quick succession before coming to grief with the race at his mercy at Catterick. He should push the selection all the way if that mishap hasn't left its mark, while Emma Soda and Son Of Suzie complete the shortlist.

Emma Soda was a good second in this on her return last year and makes plenty of appeal having won over C&D in blinkers when last seen in March. Kings Apollo and Harangue look best of the others.

Grand National hero Pineau De Re ought to show up better this time around, but this looks the next stepping stone on his path back to Aintree in April. ONE FOR HARRY was still in there pitching before coming down at the fourth last in the competitive fixed brush hurdle at Haydock on his most recent outing and, with his yard in terrific form, he can gain compensation here. The greatest threat could come from within his own stable, with Doncaster scorer Wicked Spice afforded maximum respect. Master Of The Hall and Phoenix Returns are the pick of the remainder.

In a competitive heat, HALLMARK STAR gets only a tentative vote on the back of an improved effort at Hexham. He remains a maiden but if he takes another step forward, he ought to go very close. Carhue Princess would enter the reckoning if turned out quickly after a solid effort at Bangor on Friday. Carlos Fandango has been working his way back into form and he takes high rank on the shortlist, while it would come as no surprise to see a big run from both Romany Ryme and Verko.

Verko was much improved when second at Newcastle last time and has strong claims with the third home there having won by a wide margin at Musselburgh on Monday.
