This would appear to be a good opportunity for EAGLE BOY who boasts the highest speed figures among today's starters. Ketchup Red is dropping in grade and has place prospects, as does More Gold who finished second in tougher company last time out.
This is likely to develop into a battle between SO FAR GO and Noble Cup, despite the fact that they are both returning from short breaks. Narrow preference for the latter is due to his draw against the inside rail. Governor Jeb appeals as best of the rest.
Mandy G has reached the first three in 21 of her 41 races at this venue, including nine victories, so can never be dismissed with any confidence, but it might be worth taking a chance on GIRLIE LOCKS who won a similar C&D event a couple of outings ago. Storm Bay is a likely improver in her second race since a three-month break.
FILLYFORRENT had twice hit the crossbar prior to a disappointing latest effort, so it might pay to forgive her that run. Plan Of The Day seems most likely to capitalise if the selection does fail to bounce back, while Gangrene finished third in this grade on her penultimate start and might be capable of emulating that feat.
Commander's Affair showed signs of coming to hand when third in a similar C&D event last Wednesday, while similar comments apply to Betondegray who was reaching the frame for the first time in 13 starts at this track when second nine days ago. It might be worth taking a chance on the fitness of KARAKORUM KEEPSAKE, however, as he boasts winning form in much better grade than this.
Gulf News cannot be dismissed with any confidence despite an outside draw, while Cat Tide has claims on his best form, but the vote goes to FRENCH SHAM who was closing on the leader when second over 6f here a week ago and should be suited by the return to the sort of trip over which he twice hit the crossbar in November.
By The Sword was a wide-margin winner in an easier race last time out and might find life more difficult today, while U B The Judge might have to settle for a place yet again if CAIMAN remains in the same form as when completing a double here in December.
Rowdy Bouquet has an obvious chance on her best form, but recent efforts are cause for concern. Doxologist was strongly fancied when second over 6f here last time out and might be capable of earning compensation for her long-suffering supporters, but TURKISH ECHO makes most appeal now her trainer has hit top form and she is reunited with a high-percentage jockey.
Having posted a career-best effort when winning over a slightly longer trip here nine days ago, BRENDA FROM DIXIE makes most appeal. Shoshoni Guide is another to consider, while market support for Laabity Bluebelle on her return from an absence of nearly nine months should be taken seriously.
No lack of pace here with Freire Tail and Mt. Vernon Rd. likely to try and make all, but that might set the race up for something coming from behind. GOLD GLORY WON might be that horse as he boasts winning form in higher grade and reports that he has been working well in training dispel any doubts about his fitness ahead of his first race since June 2005.
