FAIRMAC stepped forward from his debut at Hamilton when runner-up at Thirsk at the start of the month and Mark Johnston's colt makes plenty of appeal in his attempt to go one better on this occasion. Music Society (first) got the better of Highly Sprung (second) to land this 12 months ago and is interesting once again off the same rating following an eye-catching run in defeat at Ripon earlier this month. Roundhay Park was a few places ahead in second on that occasion and is respected, but the one who appeals most from that contest is JOHN KIRKUP. Michael Dods' course-and-distance winner was slightly underwhelming there, but his form before that at this venue is of the highest order and any further rain could make him very dangerous. Alben Spirit made it back-to-back victories at York and now goes in search of a hat-trick under a 5lb penalty, with Jim Goldie's recent Doncaster second Call Me Ginger foolish to rule out.

DONNELLY'S RAINBOW cruised into contention before putting the race to bed in decisive fashion when a comfortable winner at Musselburgh earlier this month and Rebecca Bastiman's course-and-distance winner makes plenty of appeal looking to follow up under a 4lb penalty. Chinese Spirit was second on that occasion and has since been involved in the finish over the same track and trip a week later. Merricourt also carries a penalty having scored on the same card as the selection, while My Ukulele wasn't beaten far when third at Hamilton last month and won at this meeting last season.
