An intriguing contest and a strong case can be made for a few. Flying Angel could be anything following what was an assertive Worcester display on his racecourse debut last month and One Cool Scorpion, a bumper winner at Newton Abbot, is also respected on his hurdling bow for the in-form Philip Hobbs stable. Just Georgie is another for the shortlist, but DEFINITE OUTCOME must be held in high regard at home having been pitched in at the deep end on his hurdling debut at Chepstow and the Grade 2 Persian War third, winner of a point-to-point and a bumper at Uttoxeter, is expected to take some stopping.

Watch out for: One Cool Scorpion (6)

There was plenty to like about DEFINITE OUTCOME's opening effort over hurdles in a Grade 2 at Chepstow and he should take a bit of stopping with his sights lowered. Flying Angel made an impressive winning debut at Worcester and a penalty is unlikely to prevent another bold showing, while Just Georgie made a promising start for his current yard at Kelso and will be suited by this trip.

Caracci Apache definitely sets the standard on his seasonal/chase debut, as he is rated 145 over hurdles, is a winner of a Grade 2 at Doncaster and was deemed good enough to contest the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival. Nicky Henderson's horses are generally needing the run, however, and for that reason the race-fit HOW ABOUT IT can confirm a taking Exeter performance. Rebecca Curtis' inmate must concede 5lb to the field, but the son of Kayf Tara created a sound impression on his chase bow last month and can continue on an upward trajectory. Spookydooky, Spirit Of Shankly and Rolling Maul must also enter calculations.

It's hard to quantify what HOW ABOUT IT achieved when scoring on chasing debut at Exeter last month, but he's open to further improvement in this sphere nevertheless, so gets the nod to put his experience to good use. Spookydooky, who took big strides forward over hurdles last term, is also of interest given his point background, with Caracci Apache making up the shortlist.

The eye is immediately drawn to the Grand National fifth Shutthefrontdoor, who makes his seasonal reappearance and his first start over hurdles since 2013. He might not need to be at his best to come out on top here, but faces some stiff opposition from the likes of BROXBOURNE, who was an excellent sixth at Royal Ascot and showed plenty of promise over timber last term. Our Kaempfer was third in a Grade 1 event at this track in April and should strip fitter for a recent sighter, and Shotavodka deserves a market check in these conditions.

A race where the contenders have more questions to answer than an episode of Mastermind. None more so than the talented Simonsig, who at the top of his game is arguably the best horse in this race but after a 970-day break he cannot be confidently supported. This race couldn't suit Bobs Worth much less, being a hurdle around a speed track over 2m4f, as he looked outpaced in the 3m4f Bet365 Gold Cup when last seen. PURPLE BAY has to give weight away but he arguably has the most solid profile as he only found Faugheen to good last time and won the Elite Hurdle a year ago. His biggest danger could come in the form of his stablemate Commissioned, who is quirky but talented and has the benefit of being race fit. Royal Boy was a cheap purchase back in May and is another who has had his fair share of issues.

PURPLE BAY has been absent since a career-best second in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton, but still has less to prove than the rest of the field for one reason or another, and his turn of foot should be a potent weapon tackling a new trip. Simonsig will clearly attract a lot of attention on his first start since his 2013 Arkle triumph, and the market will be fascinating.

UPEPITO only went down narrowly, when arguably putting in a career best, on his debut for Dan Skelton at Wetherby last month and a 2lb rise won't stop him from going well once again. Baileys Concerto disappointed on his last start over fences, but was very progressive last season and is 1lb below the mark he finished second off in the SkyBet Chase in January. Ballygarvey represents a yard in top form currently and he has won on his second start of the season for the past two campaigns, while Bincombe is another who should not be discounted.

GERMANY CALLING has done very little wrong in three starts over fences, with a runner-up finish behind Dell' Arca wedged in between two victories, and he won with enough in hand at Carlisle last time to suggest that he can defy a 6lb rise in the ratings. Yorkist has rejoined Micky Hammond after a spell with Brian Ellison and will go close if able to reproduce the form of his latest second in a Listed chase at Ayr, while the dropped-in-class Festive Affair also holds solid claims. Russborough and Dresden wouldn't be without chances either in a small but select field.

GERMANY CALLING has taken really well to chasing, jumping soundly when notching his second win in this sphere at Carlisle in October. He has sound prospects of defying a subsequent 6 lb rise, possibly at the expense of Russborough, who took a big step forward himself when opening his chasing account at Exeter in March.
