Expert Analysis
What looked like a very one-sided event proved anything but that as Inspiral went backwards from her Royal Ascot run and Propserous Voyage gained her revenge after three seemingly comprehensive defeats at that filly’s hands previously. It was a slightly muddling contest, a bit steady early, then fast in the middle and with a relatively pedestrian final 1f, but there seems little doubt that the winner put up a smart effort again despite an ordinary overall time.
PROSPEROUS VOYAGE (115 here, 110 previously) had received little credit for a succession of smart efforts in defeat before a poor one at Royal Ascot last time but was right back in the zone here, making all and a couple of lengths up in the first half of the race despite not going fast, quickening then joined and briefly headed 2f out, rallying to get back on top in the final 1f. She would probably struggle against the very best males but has more races in her against her own age and sex.
INSPIRAL (110 here, 120+ previously) was not in the same form as at Royal Ascot for whatever reason, the ground only a little firmer here than it had been then, steadied into third, making headway at halfway but soon rousted and rather laboured in getting a share of the lead briefly before one paced and not knocked about late on, meeting her first defeat. It is more likely than not that she will be back to her best next time.
SANDRINE (108 here and previously) returned to her best 2yo form while shaping as if 8f is plenty far even under these conditions, travelling strongly in second until edging ahead briefly over 1f out, no extra thereafter. The Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood could well be suitable.
PRIMO BACIO (99 here, 104 previously) has not been at her very best since this race last year, temperament possibly an issue, and this was a respectable effort on balance, unable to get on terms and not unduly knocked about having been held up in last.
SIBILA SPAIN (90 here, 109 previously), very useful in France (won Group 2 at Saint-Cloud in May), ran poorly on much firmer ground, held up and initially pulling hard.
